World Rugby has officially released the schedule for the 2026-2027 SVNS Series, confirming a structure that includes eight regular season tournaments and a three-leg World Championship. Notably for American rugby fans, New York will once again serve as a host city, featuring in the regular season circuit.

The 2026-2027 season will kick off with events in Dubai and Cape Town, two established stops on the global sevens calendar. These will be followed by tournaments in Singapore, Perth, and Vancouver before the series heads to the United States as a host city for the New York leg. This confirms the continued presence of a North American footprint in the league's regular season.

Global Reach and Championship Structure

The confirmed lineup of participating teams for the 2026-2027 season indicates a strong competitive field. In the Men’s competition, traditional powerhouses like South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Fiji, and France will compete, alongside Spain and the USA. The Women’s competition mirrors this high-level participation, featuring Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Japan, Fiji, Spain, and the USA. The USA’s presence in both the men’s and women’s draws ensures consistent American interest throughout the series.

SVNS as a Pathway to International Rugby

Looking back at the immediately preceding 2025-2026 season provides context for the upcoming series. That season saw New Zealand’s women secure the SVNS Series title, while South Africa’s men claimed the championship. These regular season triumphs were followed by the SVNS World Championship titles, which went to Australia’s women and South Africa’s men, respectively. These results underscore the competitive nature of the SVNS circuit and set the stage for another intense season as teams vie for both regular season and World Championship honors.
